In the publication process, professional copyediting comes between developmental editing and proofreading.

Copyediting checks for:

  • Consistency in grammar, spelling, capitalization, hyphenation, numbering, and punctuation

  • Consistency in tense

  • Repetitive/redundant wording

  • Wordiness and flawed sentence structure

  • Inconsistencies and typos throughout manuscript/document

  • Adherence to a particular style guide, especially regarding academic citations

Copyediting is performed using the Microsoft Word Track Changes feature and, unless otherwise specified, references The Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary.

Fees are determined by project and may vary depending on the length of the manuscript and the level of copyediting required. A free sample edit of 5–7 pages will be used to help determine the timeline and level of copyediting required.
